For generations, the Department of Education building quietly graced the city with its golden sandstone facade. Now reborn as Capella Sydney in March, this heritage-listed icon has redefined luxury in accommodation, cuisine, and cultural immersion.
Capella Sydney is nestled amidst Sydney's commercial, arts, and cultural centers, at the heart of the city's newest hospitality district. It offers 192 guestrooms and suites across 8 levels, complemented by 3 dining venues, including the signature Brasserie 1930 and McRae Bar. Meeting and event spaces attract guests while wellness enthusiasts can explore the world-class Auriga Spa.

Sunshine, coastal vistas and wildlife - this is what most people think of when they think of Sydney. However the city has an incredibly diverse fabric of culinary offerings, design and architecture, historic and cultural diversity and a world class performing arts offering, so it really is much more diverse than people realise.
People visit Sydney to experience the quintessential Australian way of life – great food, access to incredible outdoor offerings and a thriving and engaging cultural scene.
Sydney is becoming more and more of an all around destination, our traditional season is October through to March as that is the peak of our warmest time of year, however we are fortunate to have mild and sunny winters so we are seeing more international tourists escape the northern summer heat for our winter season. September is a strong month for arts in the city with great Operatic performances and Sydney Contemporary Festival, also we see New Years Eve is very popular for travelers as well.
The late summer in Sydney, long sunny days with lower humidity make March an incredibly scenic time to enjoy the city, it's also a time where there are many events and great outdoor cinema and music festivals which really allow tourists to appreciate Sydney as a scenic destination.
Sydney Harbour is such an incredibly special place that we would always recommend during a visit to Sydney that people get out onto the water and appreciate its size and mesmerising beauty from a private boat or even a public ferry.
Sydney is a city that is renowned for its breakfast culture, we always recommend Room 10 in Potts Point for its great coffee and breakfast. For an incredible lunch or dinner experience, Cirrus in Barangaroo showcases amazing Australian seafood and has an incredible wine list.
Capella focuses all we do on being masters in the craft of hospitality. In every space of the property we have worked to deliver exceptional touch points that make us stand out, whether that be our art collection, styling and curation or guest programming that we have set out to deliver a truly unique experience.
We offers guests a wide range of unique experiences and programs, we call these Rituals, Moments and Curates. As an example, guests can join an evening of storytelling and table side cocktail experience, our Ritual, called ‘Echoes of Eternity’ each evening in The Living Room. Other experiences include an architecture tour, trips to local farmers markets guided by our Culturists or insightful one-on-one experiences with Aboriginal elder Aunty Margaret Campbell.
Capella Sydney collaborated with Brent Savage and Nick Hildebrandt of The Bentley Restaurant Group to bring our signature restaurant, Brasserie 1930, to life. The restaurant captures the essence of a traditional brasserie, delivered through a contemporary Australian lens. Dovetailing a sophisticated design approach with meticulously restored architectural features, the dining room has become one of Sydney’s most desirable destinations to experience world-class cuisine. Brasserie 1930 offers in-house guests and Sydneysiders a menu of modern brasserie fare, that heroes small, independent farmers and growers celebrating the best of Australian produce. Cooking methods will draw upon age-old techniques such as curing, smoking, fermenting, preserving, and pickling with a charcoal grill the theatrical centerpiece of the open kitchen. Nick Hildebrandt’s wine program champions new and interesting producers along with iconic Australian and European labels. The wine list also taps into The Bentley Group’s aged cellar drawn from The Bentley Wine Vault, offering rare and aged wines to be savored within the luxurious surrounds of Capella Sydney.
The inclusion of Frette in our guest programming, especially our custom colour ‘Singapore Grey’, truly completes our uncompromising focus to deliver exceptional experiences to our guests. The colour palette is unique to our brand and its subtle hues complements the overall design landscape of the hotel.
All guest rooms and suites offer a full Frette sleep experience, including our mattress toppers, pillows, fillers, and of course linen. In the Auriga Spa all guest linens, including pool towels, are Frette with the addition of our Frette bathrobes in this space. Even our colleagues enjoy Frette linen with custom Frette toweling used in our colleague's end of trip facilities.
