General Manager

the INTERVIEW

We had the exclusive opportunity to sit down with Ms. Steenge-Hart, the general manager of The St. Regis Aspen Resort.

Tell us about the design of St. Regis Aspen.

Emulating a historic late 19th Century mountain manor, a subtle mix of winter grays and summer warm tones blend with striking outside views and natural textures to create a rustic, yet sophisticated environment. Each room is an inviting expression of sumptuous style, revealed in a palette inspired by classic mountain sunsets.

What are three fun facts about the property that many are surprised to learn?

1. The building is constructed of over 800,000 Colorado red bricks.

2. We have a ski butler.

3. Every holiday season, we place a 30-foot tree in our courtyard and host a community tree lighting ceremony. This year, we are adding a 7-foot tall walk-in gingerbread house to the holiday festivities!

What touches do you believe make a room or suite feel like a home-away-from-home?

1. St. Regis Butler Service, which includes complimentary pressing, packing and unpacking and beverage service in suites.

2. St. Regis Airport Butler, which provides guests with complimentary concierge and shuttle service to and from Aspen Pitkin County Airport and our resort.

3. We see families return year over year to our resort as part of their holiday family tradition. In December, we place a vintage postal box in our lobby with letters and stamped envelopes to the North Pole. Kids of all ages – and adults – participate in the merry mail. It’s a comforting touch that our staff (and Santa, of course) gets involved with, leaving such warm memories with our guests.

Walk us through your ideal stay at St. Regis Aspen.

Enjoy the pool and the mountainside views from the Courtyard. Experience a treatment at Remède Spa with a visit to the oxygen lounge and confluence waterfall. Test drive a Lexus up to Independence Pass or Maroon Bells. Slip into robes and indulge in wine and movies!

What is your greatest indulgence at a hotel when you travel?

Spa services.

Can you share your go-to in-room dining order?

A cheese plate and wine.

If you only had 24-hours in Aspen, where would you visit?

Maroon Bells, Independence Pass, shopping (of course), a service in Remède Spa and a visit to the Aspen Art Museum.

What do you believe is the greatest hidden gem in Aspen?

The Highland Bowl at Aspen Snowmass.

In your opinion, why is December a great time of year to visit Aspen?

December is all about families…holiday spirit, fun children’s activities and charm.

Why do you travel?

For hockey tournaments, horse shows and, of course, for family vacations!

How do you define luxury?

Luxury is anticipatory service and timeless style.

What does it feel like to wrap yourself in Frette?
