Tell us about the design of Filario Hotel & Residences.

The hotel carefully blends into its surroundings and the area’s historic environment. Each of our guestrooms has been furnished with locally-produced pieces designed by Art Director Alessandro Agrati. Modern, yet welcoming rooms with earthy colors offer stunning views of Bellagio, Villa Balbianello and Comacina Island.
Filario Hotel & Residences aims at presenting a truly authentic experience by offering insights on Lake Como's hidden gems.

What are some fun facts about the property that many are surprised to learn?

The name Filario is a combination of “filo” which means “thread” and honors the tradition of silk production as well as “Lario,” an historical name for Lake Como. Also, each of our rooms have a view of the lake.

What touches do you believe make a room or suite feel like a home-away-from-home?

Warm, earthy tones and natural materials used in the interior design as well as soft, comfortable beds and the soothing sounds of the lake in the distance all make one feel at home. The apartments are complete with a spacious living area and a fully-equipped kitchen.

Walk us through your ideal stay at Filario Hotel & Residences.

Filario offers the ideal location for our guests. It’s peaceful and panoramic, yet a short distance from Bellagio. Guests have the opportunity to enjoy the perfect combination of time for oneself to rest and take in the spectacular scenery along with plenty of nearby activities that are easily accessible.
For a three-night stay, I would suggest lounging by our infinity pool and private beach before exploring the hamlets scattered along the shores of Lake Como such as Tremezzo, Lenno and Varenna, amongst others. For those of us who seek a little more fun in the water, take advantage of the water sport equipment we have available to all guests on property. A lakeside dinner at our fine dining restaurant, the Bistrò, is a must. If you’re wandering through town, then I suggest trying a simple, authentic Italian meal.

"Luxury is genuine hospitality framed in tranquillity, space, meaningful design and a view to remember."

What is your greatest indulgence at a hotel when you travel?

It would have to be good food, breathtaking views and a series of long massages.

Can you share your go-to in-room dining order?

Rather than in-room dining, I’ll make my way down to the hotel’s bar or restaurant to relax and really get a sense of where I am visiting.

What is the most unique experience you have put together for a guest?

We’ve been lucky enough to host many weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions at Filario. Our staff assists in organizing every detail of the stay, always keeping the occasion and guest preferences in mind to make sure each experience is unique and tailor-made.
If I must name one that’s most unique, it would have to be a birthday celebration we organized in one of the historical villas of Lake Como which can only be reached by water. Our team arranged for several classic Riva Boats to depart from the hotel’s private dock for a tour of the lake followed by a memorable arrival to the celebration venue.

If you only had 24 hours by Lake Como, where would you visit?

During spring and autumn, I would certainly recommend visiting the town of Bellagio for its boutique shops, historical villas and the botanical gardens. In the summer, exploring some of the lesser known towns in the area is a smart choice. And regardless of the time of year, the best way to experience Lake Como is by wooden taxi boat – or sea plane.

What do you believe is the greatest hidden gem in Lake Como?

In my opinion, Villa del Balbianello is the greatest hidden gem. Situated in Lenno at the tip of the peninsula across the lake from the hotel, it’s reachable by boat in just 10 minutes. The interior of this villa was perfectly preserved by its previous owner, G. Monzino, who donated the property to the Italian Environment Foundation (FAI).

Why do you travel?

Travel for me is the only way to unplug from the intensity of everyday life and enter a dimension of discovery and enjoyment at a slow pace.

How do you define luxury?

I think of luxury as the opportunity to immerse in the local culture and live an authentic experience. Luxury is genuine hospitality framed in tranquillity, space, meaningful design and a view to remember.

What does it feel like to wrap yourself in Frette?

All of our fabrics throughout the property are by Frette – from tablecloths and bedsheets to towels and slippers. We chose Frette as it is synonymous with quality. Aside from its illustrious name, Frette linens offer a true sense of well-being which derives from the high quality of materials used, lasting long and remaining soft over time.
