What inspired your passion for design?

My many European travels keep me inspired to design….I love to explore other countries for their food, culture and design history, which always plays a role in my design concept process.

Who are your (design) mentors?

Michael Taylor, John Dickenson and Orlando Diaz all San Francisco based Interior Designers, two who have passed but all have classically unique design approaches that have made them icons in the world of Interior Design.

What art field are you most interested in?

I am interested in art that grabs my attention. I like and enjoy all media of art and enjoy when they can be well curated to make a well-collaborated collection.

What are the most important decorative elements in your home?

The most precious pieces to me are the ones that have been passed down from family or friends and the ones I have found in my travels. They all have a story and memories, which are comforting to have around.

What are your three most important elements when designing a bedroom/room?

Number one is our bed….it must be comfy, cozy and lush. In order for you to get the rest, you need to be able to crawl into your bed and feel comfortable while you hibernate through the night.
Number two, have things that make you feel good….your bedroom is your private sanctuary, you need to have things that make you feel good! It can be art, a keepsake, anything that makes you feel good.
Number three, plants….plants add warmth with their rich green tone and they are great for cleansing the air. It can be a little bedside plant to a big potted plant.

From your experience, what is the best decorating advice you can offer someone?

The best decorating advice is let your space tell a story. A space with a story makes for an interesting space. Travel, explore and let yourself be inspired by nature, culture, and objects. Add a twist of sophistication and culture to your room, with a piece that you found in an antique shop or shop while traveling. The found-out-of-place piece will be the perfect offbeat piece that will pull our room together!

What's your Frette Masterpiece? (Your favourite Frette piece)

I love to mix and match with Frette...we all need at least two-bed sheet sets in our lives, so why not select two complementary sheet sets, so that you can mix it up and have a few different looks. Traditionally, I love to pick a solid and pattern. My favorite is the Doppio Ajour blended with the Illusione, the Doppio Ajour is fresh and clean with the perfect little double hemstitch and the Illusione adds a great soft sophisticated tone on tone textured pattern.

Where do you go for design inspiration in the Bay Area?

The ocean is my calming place…the sounds take me to a calm place, while the palette of the ocean, skyline give me inspiration. On the way to and from the ocean, I am able to stop time and just take in what I see in nature, buildings and atmosphere…you would be surprised how many of my projects begin this way. It is my design meditation.

What is your favorite book, magazine, or site related to design?

The Hotel Book, this is a book I picked up at the Hotel I was staying at in Greece….it is a great reference when I want to dream about traveling and has many design inspirations throughout.

What is on your nightstand?

My favorite lavender hand cream, my journal, a carafe for the late night water thirst and a little bedside lamp.
